The Effectiveness of Online Seminar in Increasing Motivation and Knowledge of Taking Antiretrovirals (ARVs) Among People with HIV AIDS (PWHA)

Abstract
Background: ARVs discovery is a revolution in the treatment of PWHA. The success of HIV/AIDS treatment is determined by the adherence of taking ARV. Nonadherence can be caused by physical discomfort of taking ARVs. Nonadherence can foster HIV resistance. Motivation and knowledge are needed for ARV therapy adherence. There is a need for activity to increase motivation and knowledge of PWHA in taking ARVs. Objectives: To find out the effectiveness of online seminars in increasing the motivation and knowledge of PWHA in taking ARVs. Method: implemented by holding an online seminar to PWHA and to find out the description of motivation, and knowledge in the taking of ARVs, respondents were given pretest and posttest. Results: 56 Respondents filled the pretest and posttest consisted of 60.7% men, 39.3% women, the most age 53.5% is 30 to 40 years, high school education is the most 57.1%, who take ARV 80.4%; Motivation: The most motivation of taking ARVs were came from Doctors/Nurses/Psychologists/health workers 22%. The most reason 35.7% to be able to get activity as before. 19.6% of respondents were unmotivated nor did they take ARV. Knowledge; 92.9% of respondents had good knowledge and there was no change between pretest and post-test. It could be because respondents who took ARVs already had prior knowledge about ARV. Conclusion: Respondents who took ARVs were respondents who were motivated and also had good knowledge about ARVs. Respondents who didn’t take ARV had no motivation. But not all respondents who didn’t take ARV had less knowledge. The most motivation for taking ARVs came from Doctors/Nurses/Psychologists/health workers. Suggestion: Online Seminar was needed to to encouraged and maintain the motivation and knowledge about taking ARVs in PWHA.
