Abstract

Tooth loss can disrupt the stomatognathic system and lead to structural and functional changes. Tooth loss is also caused by aging factors. Decreased mastication function in the elderly is often caused by the loss of many teeth which can reduce the quality of life. According to the results of Basic Health Research by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, in 2018 57.6% of Indonesia's population experienced dental and oral health problems. 19% of them had missing teeth. Based on Article 2 paragraph (2) Permenkes No.1871 / Menkes / Per / IX / 2011, dental artisans can manufacture dentures at a lower price than dentists, so that many people still choose to manufacture dentures at dental artisans. The results showed that there was a relationship between the knowledge of denture maintenance and denture hygiene. Selection of the right dentures and the hygiene of the dentures that are used have an effect on oral health. RPTRA Harapan Mulia is an RPTRA located in Kemayoran and based on the information obtained, there have been many cases of tooth loss, especially in the elderly who were not replaced with artificial teeth or replaced with dentures made by dental artisans.

This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of the elderly and elderly cadres about the importance of replacing lost teeth using artificial teeth, choosing good and appropriate dentures and caring skills for the dentures used. The method used is the method of counseling, pre test and post test accompanied by a demonstration of how to clean dentures properly and correctly. Train elderly cadres by using poster media so that the training that has been carried out can be continued in the future to the elderly community. The results of this activity were knowledge about dental hygiene, mouth, dentures and proper maintenance of dentures which increased by 6.25% before and after the test using the same questions. Increasing knowledge and skills in using good and appropriate dentures is expected to increase awareness of the importance of using dentures and maintain cleanliness.
